Review: Confess by Colleen Hoover

CONFESS
BY COLLEEN HOOVER

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a new novel about risking everything for love—and finding your heart somewhere between the truth and lies.

Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.

For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover that Owen is keeping some major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.

The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…

Review
5 of 5 stars

If there is one thing I love to do in life, it is read Colleen Hoover books.  Hopeless truly began our journey into blogging.  We were captivated by the story and could't wait to tell everyone else how amazing it was and why they should read it.  We loved Slammed and Maybe Someday.  Ugly Love, while good, did not live up to our expectations.  It just seemed like something was missing in the story.  It was so hard to not give that book 5 stars, but we felt like we had to give an honest opinion.  To say we were nervous to begin Confess is an understatement.  However, you can't have a CoHo book on your Kindle and not just read it.  So we opened it up and jumped in.  Now, we have to confess, this book is Ah-Mazing!  Colleen Hoover had us from the first line to the last word.

The prologue alone broke my heart, seriously the tears were flowing within minutes of starting the book!  Auburn has such an awesome story.  She is a selfless and inspiring character.  When she stumbled upon the Confess art studio and the help wanted sign, well fate simply takes over.  She desperately needs the money, and Owen, the gallery's owner desperately needs help.  Little does Auburn know one night, one opportunity for some quick cash, will completely change the course of her life, or is it just the beginning of the life she was always meant to lead?

So, let's talk about Owen...OMG he is great!  Colleen Hoover always places fresh, new spins on things.  Confess is no different.  All of Owen's art is inspired by anonymous confessions that people leave him.  Some of them are heartbreaking, some are terrible, some are beautiful but all are reminders we all struggle.  I think these confessions are quite honestly what I love most about this story.  Knowing they are real confessions, adds a unique depth to the experience.  It also provides an outlet for Owen and Auburn to voice their own "confessions."  This gives us readers the opportunity the see what they are actually thinking, an insight to their true feelings.

I found parts of this story to be somewhat predictable, but it's written so well, it's such a beautifully captivating story that I simply didn't mind.  I more than enjoyed Confess.  When I finished I thought to myself, this is why I love Colleen Hoover because she seamlessly takes a single idea and propels it into a something beyond grand, something unique.  I will always wonder where she finds her inspirations.  I can honestly say without a doubt there is no one who can tell a story as perfectly well rounded as Colleen.  I cannot even begin to imagine what goes on in that mind of hers!

As with all of Colleen Hoover's books she writes in such a way that it flows from the page straight to my heart.  It is effortless to read the words that make up the pages.  From the humor to the emotion that cuts you like a knife, it is always sad when The End shows up on the last page.  Confession:  I am never ready for any of her books to be over.
