Glancing up, I suck my breath in when I find dark eyes connected to mine, eyes so dark they’re almost black, and the energy in them is enough to freeze me in place.
A boy is attached to the dark gaze.
A man.
He’s probably no more than twenty or twenty-one, but everything about him screams man. There’s no boy in him. That part of him is very clearly gone. I see it in his eyes, in the way he holds himself, in the perceptive way he takes in his surroundings, then stares at me with singular focus, like we’re somehow connected by a tether. He’s got a million contradictions in his eyes….aloofness, warmth, mystery, charm, and something else I can’t define.
He’s muscular, tall, and wearing a tattered black sweatshirt that says Irony is lost on you in orange letters. His dark jeans are belted with black leather, and a silver band encircles his middle finger.
Dark hair tumbles into his face and a hand with long fingers impatiently brushes it back, all the while his eyes are still connected with mine. His jaw is strong and masculine, with the barest hint of stubble.
His gaze is still connected to mine, like a livewire, or a lightning bolt. I can feel the charge of it racing along my skin, like a million tiny fingers, flushing my cheeks. My lungs flutter and I swallow hard.
And then, he smiles at me.
At me.
Because I don’t know him and he doesn’t know better.

Beautiful Cover...check, killer synopsis...check, note from author, which confirms what you already knew, that you absolutely had to read this book...check!!! Let's just say going into this book I had some pretty high expectations. I mean have you read the author's note? I cannot imagine a single person who sees the cover and reads both the author's note and synopsis that wouldn't at least be intrigued enough to one-click this book. But the real question is would it live up to the hype I was feeling? The answer, yes it so completely did! So put your mind at ease and go ahead and get your one-click finger ready. Nocte by Courtney Cole is without a doubt a must-read book.
Everything about this book is clever, brilliant and beautifully executed. The story begins with Calla, and her mentally ill twin brother Finn. They've recently and unexpectedly lost their mother but Calla must be strong, she must take care of Finn. He needs her to save him from himself, it's a huge responsibility, but he is her twin, her other half and while some may see it as a burden, Calla doesn't.
It's evident Calla is also struggling in dealing with her mother's death, her grief is weighing her down, her days seem dark, well with the exception of Dare, he bring light into her life, he seems to be Calla's lifeline. Then as you dive deeper into the story you also find out Finn's got a secret, one in which you will try with everything you have to figure out before it's revealed.
This story will consume you, it will have you on the edge of your seat, you will not be able to put it down because you will be so immersed into the lives of Calla and Finn as you're trying to figure out the big secret, while witnessing a true and powerful love between siblings. It's a moving, heartbreaking story with a twist I never even saw coming. Then when I finally learned the secret, the ending left me wanting the answer to an even bigger question! So, yes I got a happy for now ending, but I want more! Well done Courtney Cole this book was a fantastic journey for me and I cannot wait to get my hands on the second installment. If you're taking the time to read this review, please take my advice and read Nocte for yourselves, experience the beauty in finding a great story written in a truly unique manner!

Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could. She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds. She loves chocolate and roller coasters and hates waiting and rude people. Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.
