Synopsis
Ever since high school, Kayla has been crazy for gorgeous football player Talon. But before she could muster the courage to tell him, he became a hot item with her beautiful BFF, Reagan. The only person who knows Kayla’s secret is Wesley, Talon’s best bud—and he’s got it bad for Reagan. Now they’re all in college together, hanging out 24/7. For Kayla, seeing the two lovebirds together is absolutely unbearable. So Kayla and Wesley hatch a plot to drive them apart before Talon has a chance to give Reagan the Christmas gift she’s been waiting for.
Soon enough, the once happy couple is fighting. Reagan suddenly can’t get enough of Wesley’s goofy sense of humor, and Talon seems to be paying more attention to Kayla than a guy who’s “only a friend” ever should. But just when everything seems to be falling into place, Kayla and Wesley accidentally spend a night together and discover a hitch in their plan they never considered: that switching partners may not lead to a perfect ending after all.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review...
Meet Kayla, a college freshman who has secretly been "in love" with Talon since they were children. A chance encounter dating back to when they were just kids is the fuel behind her crush and after all these years she is convinced they are soul-mates. The only problem...her best friend/roommate Reagan has been dating him for the past year!
Meet Wesley, also a college freshman, who is secretly "in love" with Reagan; who just so happens to be his best friend Talon's serious girlfriend. Kayla, Wesley, Reagan and Talon are the closest of friends and do everything together. The only problem...Kayla and Wesley are miserable as they watch the ones they love in a relationship of their own, never noticing the ones they should be with. Or should they?
Kayla feels Wesley is the only one who can commiserate with her and vice versa. Honestly it seems as though Wesley is the only one who can cheer her up when it gets too hard to watch. They are desperate and lonely together until one day when being a 3rd and 4th wheel becomes too much and they devise a plan for Talon and Reagan to notice them, a plan which will not only allow Talon to be with Kayla and Wesley to be with Reagan but one which will also allow them to continue their friendship.
Switched is a super cute, fun, fast, feel good read. The entire story is told from Kayla's perspective, with each chapter starting out as a sort of reflective journal entry. What I enjoyed most was watching Kayla's opinion and feelings toward both Wesley and Talon developing and changing. As the reader you figure it out long before Kayla, but it doesn't make it any less fun and enjoyable watching her finally recognizing the truth of who she is in love with.
At first Kayla comes across as kind of a self-centered bitch, and at times I was like you have got to be kidding me...how much more selfish can you be! But then as soon as her thoughts poured out she would recognize how they sounded and I couldn't help but feel bad for her. I mean how miserable would it be to feel connected to this one person, a person who you think is the answer to everything, but in reality they don't seem to truly notice you. Add on the fact because your feelings and crush have been going on for so long and are so strong you've never even opened yourself up to the possibility of another person because you don't see the point when you already know who your soul-mate is.
While I really did enjoy this book, and I LOVED the ending, the down-side was I really didn't feel any strong emotional connection to Kayla, and for me this is something I look for to when starting a new book journey. In addition, it wasn't one of those books I couldn't put down. I was interested and I was invested in the story but I didn't feel completely consumed as I have with some of the other book's I've recently been reading. But enough about my opinions. The real question is what happens? Will Kayla find her HEA with Talon and Wesley with Reagan or will their plan backfire? Find out for yourself and one click Switched now!
